Toxic Baby Bottles

This has been getting a lot of press lately. Honestly I didn't really pay much attention to it since Phoenix has been off the bottle for a few months now. Another mommy on my baby board brought up the concern of the same chemicals leeching out in her water bottle. So of course now I have to do some research. :) Apparently the chemical BPA (bisphenol-a) is toxic when heated. It mimics estrogen and induces early puberty. Well I wash everything in the dishwasher so it's "heated". You can easily identify which products contain BPA by looking at the recycling numbers on the bottom of the bottle. Ones to avoid are 3, 6, and 7. Yesterday while cleaning my kitchen of these items I threw out Jaceys nalgene sippy bottle, 2 nalgene water bottles, 3 medicine spoons from the pharmacy, 2 medicine cups from liquid tylenol/nyquil bottles, 2 of my favorite latte cups that were made out of hard plastic, and 95% of Phoenix's baby food. The baby food in the plastic containers were both gerber and the walmart brand. They both had 7's on them so in the trash they went. This chemical is also used in the lining of canned infant formula. LOVELY!!! That's all I used for the girls. So I'm on the search for stainless steel water bottles and sippy cups. I've come across these foogo sippys and these Sigg water Bottles and I might give them a try. They're both kinda pricey but it might be a price I'm willing to pay to keep the toxic chemicals out of my childrens bodies. Here are a few links if you're interested in finding out more.

Chunky Monkey....finally!

My skinny minnie is turning into a chunky monkey.....finally! :) I took Phoenix to the dr today for her 15 month check up. She's 26 lbs and 31 inches, 75th percentile. Now that's more like it. :) She's finally catching up and getting some meat on her bones. She still doesn't walk but the dr wasn't too worried about that. She stands up and she'll walk when she holds onto something. She's just being stubborn. :) Kinda like the ol finger on the coffee table huh Jodi? :) She got 1 shot today. That ticked her off pretty good. Apparently the other shot she was supposed to get (I can't remember the name!) has a nationwide shortage and according to the CDC it has been recommended that they delay the vax on that until she's 2 or 3. Ok, works for me. Less shots, less screaming. :) She's napping right now. Hopefully her leg doesn't hurt too much when she gets up.

Hannah Montana Jazmin

Jazmin picked out this pattern awhile back and wanted me to make her a top. I've been so darn busy that I haven't had a chance to do anything with it. Well, I had yesterday off and I decided to take a stab at it. OY! Trying to read and decypher the pattern took the longest. I kid you not!!! I spent all afternoon yesterday trying to get it done. Then for some reason, it clicked! The first top took a few hours. The second one took an hour or so from cutting the fabric to the very last stitch. Jaz loves them!!!! Here she is modeling. :) The pattern
The first top. Check out the sporty glasses!!! Isn't she cute????

New Shoes.....again

These are the new shoes Jaz is now sporting. This is the third pair of shoes I've had to buy her in the last 6 months. No, her foot isn't growing that fast, she's simply wearing through them! ARGHHHH! So tonight we bit the bullet and paid a little bit more and got them just a tish bit big and bought them from Sears. :) Not just because I get a fancy, schmancy discount but because of the wearout guarantee. If your child wears out their clothing before they outgrow it, it gets replaced for FREE. Yup, free. Your kiddo wears out the knees in their jeans, just take em back and get a brand new pair in the same size. It's brilliant if you ask me. :) Now hopefully with these shoes being just a little big, maybe they'll last until fall. I can hope can't I? I mean there are only 8 more weeks of school and then it will be flip flops every day. Sigh..... I hope it works out.

slipping away

Ever feel like certain people are just slipping out of your life? Sigh.... That's the way I feel right now.

Way to go Gran!!!

My mom has been looking for a new job for awhile now. Well she just has to pass the physical today and she's got a new one! She gets a raise, will be the new lead trainer at a brand new company coming to her area. The best part......is they're sending her to Dallas for 6 weeks of paid training!!!! So we may be able to drive down and spend some time with her on the weekends. The company should be up and operational by June. I'm so glad she has gotten this opportunity. She really deserves it. Way to go Gran!!!!

Jacey the comedian

I'm tellin you this kid of mine is going to be a comedian when she grows up. We went to a pizza buffet today for lunch. Jacey would not eat her lunch. She would take little nibbles here and there but nothing significant. Finally the desert pizza came up on the buffet and of course she wanted that right away. I told her she had to eat a little bit more and drew an imaginary line on the pizza with my finger. I told her when she ate to that line she could have the dessert pizza. Well my darling daughter tried to renegotiate where the line was. I didn't give in. Told her where the line was one last time. Daddy and I were talking and Jacey was nibbling some more. Then all of a sudden she goes, Mommy, I'm at the line can I have my dessert now? The little turd had taken a bite out of the side of the pizza right where I told her the line was. "See, I ate to the line Momma." with a big huge grin on her face. Daddy and I busted out laughing. Maybe she should run for president too when she gets older. She's always got a way around everything! :)

Allergies

So today I had to take Jaz to the dr. She's got horrible allergies just like her father. Poor kid, she's got my bad eyes and his bad allergies. Anyway, we were able to get her fixed up with some steroids for 5 days, some zyrtec and some nasonex. Luckily he gave me about 6 weeks worth of samples. :D Hopefully my poor child will be able to breath again soon. She snores terribly bad at night and breathes through her mouth the majority of the night. She woke up this morning with terrible cracks in her lips from them being so dry. Poor baby! So todays goal is to set up the humidifier and hopefully that will help too.

TAKS news

I should have posted this yesterday. We got the official results of Jazmin's reading TAKS test. She aced it!!!! 100% We're so very proud of her!!!! I just have to say that I really hate these tests though. They put so much pressure on the kids. If you don't pass the tests, then you don't go to the next grade. She takes her math one on the 29th. I'm hoping she aces that one too.
